From: Tricia Hammond & Family Judy Duncan has tremendous knowledge that she so generously shares. Our family has had the opportunity to know her for four years. She has enriched our ability to understand, communicate with, and enjoy our horse. Judy may not have been labeled a "horse whisperer" yet, but in our opinion she is. She doesn't use harsh treatment, yelling, or negative reinforcement to train. She watches the horse and reads it's body language. When we met her, she was riding a stallion in tennis shoes and no helmet in a large group lesson. There was never a problem.Judy has written a book on stallions and if more owners read it and understood it, possibly there would not be as many "crazy stallions". Judy has taught my daughter many life lessons for which we will always be grateful. Under Judy's guidance, my daughter won First Place in the California State Science Fair in Zoology. Her project was entitled, "Horse Sense: Do Horses Respond to Human Emotion?" Savannah worked the summer of 2009 with Judy, and Judy taught Savannah many valuable lessons, that Savannah was able to build into a winning science project. Judy and Savannah were able to have a 5 year old, ready and ride-able in 6 weeks. This horse was difficult to lead and had broken a professionals leg 2 years prior. Together they took a mare and a 2 day old colt out for a bath. By 3 weeks old she took the baby out with her mother on a trail ride to a park with a 12 year old mare, on river crossings. They had no problems. If you have a problem horse, please do not give up. Judy Duncan is the answer to your problems. Do not let a trainer tell you that it's the horses fault. Judy Duncan is an amazing trainer because she loves what she does. She does everything with love and compassion. Judy's experience and knowledge are priceless. From: Judy Duncan Kristy had trained two horse for about two months. Both horses were very light and supple on the bit. They were very green, but in spite of that you could move their shoulders or rump to the left or right and they were tuned into the rider like a glove. These horses were too green to hold a framed collection for an extended time, however when they moved, they were collected with their ears forward and very willing. Another horse had only been under saddle 4 times, yet Kristy could frame him and ride him out of the round pen and down the road with no problems. From: Becky Nye After 3 times of riding Storm Kristy was able to ride him down the road and back and he never tossed his head or anything. Storm was a biter, kicker, and he'd run you over if he had a chance. I am very happy and pleased with what he is doing now. Sarah Allen & Scott Martins Here is what I would like to say about Judy's training techniques: I have had a very sweet but dominant mare for two years that I could barely handle since she was very pushy. One day Judy came to me and immediately nailed the problem. She told me to take out the chain I used to lead my mare and to change my body posture. It was very impressive!!! I have not had any problem leading my mare since then. Furthermore, Judy provides such a sense of confidence that when I started riding my mare, I felt very self-assured even though I have not ridden for the last two years and my mare was very green. In fact, one day my mare bolted and with Judy's technique I was able to control her appropriately. Judy also taught me how to handle my mare's baby. Because of her training, my filly is now a very well behaved youngster. In fact, recently the vet came to evaluate her, performing a 1 1/2 hour exam. My vet told me she decided to perform this very detailed examination because my filly had excellent manners. Furthermore, my vet said she will never consider doing that type of examination in another yearling because it could be unsafe. It is very obvious that Judy loves and understands horses and the relationship of people with horses. All her training is done with positive reinforcement, so horses and the their owners, like me, adore her. Judy is the most impressive trainer I know!!!! Cecilia From: Jake Loftis and his sister Amber Judy Duncan told me how to train my own two year old horse when I was 11 years old. Judy also taught my younger sister who was 9 years old. We worked with Judy for 3 years. My first horse was Lightening and I broke him just to trail ride with my family. Then, when Lightening was 4 years old I spent less than a month working on my second and third level 4H test. In that time I taught Lightening to back in a circle both ways, to turn on the forehand and haunches, to do a simple change of leads and to collect. that year, I won purples ribbons and trophies in speed, pleasure and trail. Since Judy left, the children have continued to train all of our horses - about ten horses so far. They also work with problems that the new horses we purchase come with. |
